On Saturday and Sunday I had my first market at our local community center! On Friday, my husband and I loaded up the kids, all my tables, displays and headed for the community center to set up. I realized I wasn't on the main floor when I got there. I was up on a stage with a couple other booths. In order for people to get to my booth they had to go outside, walk up some stairs, go through a room, and then they would finally be at my booth. I wasn't too happy about my location, but for it being my first market I just took whatever I could get to get my name out there!
On Saturday morning my husband and I set up all the plushies and waited for people to start rolling in. I was quickly realizing that I was only getting about half the foot traffic that the main floor was getting. I wish I would have had more people coming to my booth, but it also gave me a chance to learn how to do transactions and interact with people without there being too much of a crowd. I only sold nine items the first day.
Sunday was an even slower day. Barely anyone came to my booth. Although, I had a couple people buy multiple items and asked about customs. It was exciting to see people get excited about my booth, but they were wanting smaller items. They were wanting even smaller items than the bees I had made. I only sold nine items that day, as well.
I started off with 88 items and ended the event with 70. I sold some bees, a couple dinosaurs, a coin purse, a poke ball, a Vaporeon, and an Octo mama with babies. I was really surprised that my baby Yoda's didn't sell or any of my Mario themed items. A lot of people just wanted to buy the baby octos that I had set up in sets. Once they realized the babies were not sold individually they would leave my booth. It seems that my community likes things that can fit in the palm of their hand. So next time I will make more even smaller items and less medium to large items.
Overall, it was a good learning experience and I did make enough to pay for the space, tables, chairs, and other items I needed to do the event. I even got a custom order! I consider that a win!
